Much More Than Just a Poo: Ecologic Balance

Poologists realised that all animals are difffferent from eachmother. And, surely, so are their poos… Well, what happens to all those poos? Have you ever thought about that? Is it possible that animal poo can be a source of nutrition for other living things? If you are ready, we will wander around the world with the poologists.

The poologists were working hard again. They observed animals in nature. They saw that they were all difffferent from each other. Moreover, the poos of the animals were not alike.

Many animal poos contain valuable nutrients that are benefificial for plants. They help plants grow and develop. These types of poos are called manure.

These poos are important not only for plants but also for other animals.

Did you know that dung beetles collect and roll up poo into balls and happily eat them at mealtimes?

Well, have you heard that baby koalas feed by eating their mother’s poo?

While we’re on the topic of beaches, we need to mention whales. Whales are among the largest creatures in the ocean. As they feed deep underwater, they rise to the surface to poo.

There are tiny living things called plankton, so small that we can see them only with a microscope. These creatures help clean the water by eating whale poo.

What if we told you that coffffee can be made from the poo of a very special cat? But don’t mix it up with ordinary cats! This poo comes only from the Asian palm civet, an animal that lives in Indonesia.

First, it eats the coffffee beans and then produces poos that look like little pine cones. Coffffee is then made from these poos—of course, only after they have gone through a long process in factories.
